Spice and Wolf II [!]

Producer: Brains Base
Synopsis: The official Japanese website of the Wolf and Spice franchise has confirmed that a second television anime season has been green-lit. Director Takeo Takahashi and screenplay writer Naruhisa Arakawa will return for Spice and Wolf II. However, Toshimitsu Kobayashi (El Hazard: The Alternative World, Fate/stay night) will replace Kazuya Kuroda as the character designer and chief animation director. Likewise, the Brain’s Base studio (MazinKaiser, The Boy Who Saw the Wind) will be animating instead of IMAGIN. The anime adapts Isuna Hasekura and Jū Ayakura’s acclaimed novel series that avoids the usual sword-and-sorcery trappings of fantasy stories and focuses on how business (and religion) gets done in a medieval world — with a wolf girl. Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu will reprise their roles as the peddler Lawrence and the wolf girl Horo who embark on a journey together. (Source: ANN)

  • As it says, this is the continuation of the first Spice and Wolf. More adventures awaits Lawrence and Wolf. It’ll be nice to see Horo be awesome again and see her rip off other merchants. Good stuff.  They might even meet Lelouch and CC on their travels. Crossed fingers.

Cobra : Rokunin no Yushi

Producer:
Synopsis: New Cobra TV series postponed to 2010.

  • If you haven’t watched the first one then chances are you won’t be interested in this one either. Anyways, I’m not so thrilled about remakes after being disappointed with Casshern sins which I was forced to drop.

Aoi Hana

Producer: J.C. Staff
Synopsis : In the original manga’s story, Fumi and Akira were close childhood friends until Fumi had to move away. Ten years after losing touch with each other, the two girls meet again as high school freshmen. The two struggle to reconnect after so much has changed, and both deal with the trials and tribulations of high school — sometimes independently and sometimes with each other’s help. (Source: ANN)

  • Well that was one hell of a boring trailer. Too trivial.

Elementals Hunters

Producer:
Synopsis: In 2029, a large scale ground sinkage occurred in Mediterranean Sea and chemical elements such as oxygen, carbon, gold, molybdenite, and cobalt suddenly disappeared from the earth’s crust. Human population was decreased by 90% in sixty years. Researchers found out that the disappeared elements were drained into a planet “Nega Earth”, which located in different dimensions. To save the Earth, a special team “Element Hunter” is organized. All the members are under 14 years old because young and flexible brains are required to access to “Nega Earth”.

  • “Aimed at children”  You already lost me there.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou sensei [!]

Producer: SHAFT
Synopsis: This year’s 21st issue of Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine will announce on Wednesday that a third television anime adaptation of Kôji Kumeta’s Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei manga has been green-lit. Zan Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei will premiere on UHF television stations throughout Japan in July. Hiroshi Kamiya, the winner of the Best Lead Actor Award at this year’s 3rd Annual Seiyū Awards, will reprise his role as the world’s most negative person who happens to teach a high school class. [Source: ANN]

  • You know who is good at teaching? Itoshiki–sensei is. Sure, the second season wans’t a s good as the first one but it was still very enjoyable. I’m looking forward to more awesome anime references : Code Geass, Nice boat, maybe DMC would be awesome. I will definitely follow this one.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Producer: BONES
Synopsis : An apocalyptic look at what would happen if an earthquake of a magnitude 7.0 or greater were to hit Tokyo. Mirai, a middle school freshman girl who goes to Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition with her brother Yutaka at the start of summer vacation. A powerful tremor emanates from an ocean trench, the famed Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a motorcycle delivery woman named Mari who they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yutaka strive to head back to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo.

  • Bone original production huh? Sounds good to me. So is it going to be one huge earthquake? Are there going to be more  every 8 eps? Why am I thinking Higashi no Eden right now? It’s worth a shot I’ll keep an eye out for this one.

CANAAN [!]

Producer: TYPE-MOON
Synopsis: Anime adaption of the game 428. Type-Moon’s Nasu Kinoko and Takeuchi Takashi are in charge of the anime script and character designs. They also made the script and character designs for one of the bonus scenarios in the game.

  • Nice story, good character designs, plus the trailer seemed alright to me. This might turn out to be a great anime after all.

Umineko no naku Koro Ni [!]

Producer: Studio DEEN
Synopsis: Umineko no Naku Koro ni takes place in 1986 during the time frame of October the 4th and the 5th on a secluded island named Rokkenjima (六軒島). The head of the wealthy Ushiromiya family, Kinzō Ushiromiya, who lives on and owns Rokkenjima, is near death, and eleven of his family members arrive on the island to discuss how Kinzō’s assets will be divided once he is dead. Also on the island are five of Kinzō’s servants, and his personal physician. After the eleven family members arrive, a typhoon traps them on the island and shortly after people start to get mysteriously murdered. (Source: Baka-Tsuki)

  • It should be beyond obvious that I’m a huge Higurashi fan. Ryukishi07’s is a genious and his work rank very high on my book. I advise you to watch Higurashi first if you haven’t done so already. You are missing out big time!

Taishou Yakyuu Musume

Producer: J.C. Staff
Synopsis: Adaptation of Atsushi Kagurazaka’s two historical slice-of-life novels (translated as Taishou-Era Baseball Girls). The story is about two 14-year-old Japanese high school girls named Koume and Akiko who decide to start a baseball team in Japan in 1925. At the time, few baseball teams — male or female — exist in the country. First though, the two girls have no clue where to find nine players, how to use the equipment, and what even the rules are. (ANN)

Wait, there are a couple of things I don’t get. 1) They don’t know how play. 2) They don’t know the rules either. 3) Why do they even want to play baseball then? God, that sounds terribly familiar! And more importantly, are those the uniforms that school girls wore in 1925? Damn, Japan schools sure know their stuff. No wonder they are one of the world powers today.

Winter Sonata

Producer:
Synopsis: Airing 2009. Based on the Korean drama television series about the love between two childhood friends and the tragic events that happen. The drama was a huge hit in Japan

  • I don’t follow any Korean dramas. Are they any good? I want to say pass but I’m willing to give it a try first, based on that I might watch it if the anime is only 13 eps otherwise no.

Bakemonogatari

Producer:
Synopsis: The short stories in the two volumes of Bakemonogatari deal with a high school boy named Koyomi Araragi and strange students he encounters. (“Bakemonogatari” is a wordplay on the Japanese term bakemono for supernatural creatures and the term monogatari for stories.) One student, a girl named Hitagi Senjōgahara, almost literally falls into his lap, only to have him discover she has no weight.

  • That was tremendously Sayonara Setsubou Sensei-esque but that the trailer didn’t tell us anything. Like everyone says It’s SHAFT. Must check it out at least.

Sora no naminami

Producer: Studio Comet
Synopsis: Saku Ooyagi returns to his hometown after seven years and is soon reacquainted with his childhood friend, Mihoshi Akeno. The reunion is far from merry since the last memory they have of each other is of her falling off a tree and him saving her. In any case, Mihoshi is determined to improved their relationship and forces Saku to join the astronomy club she founded.

  • It’s Japan’s evil plan to make us learn while we watch anime. The fiends! Comedy, romance and a telescope? No really, it sounds boring. I think I’m passing.

Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou

Producer: Nomad
Synopsis: The December issue (on sale on November 4) of Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine will announce that Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahō (Properly Learned Modern Magic) light novels will be animated. The story revolves around Koyomi Morishita, a clumsy high school freshman girl who is often mistaken for a grade-schooler because of her shortness. Koyomi becomes a disciple of Misa Anehara, a 25-year-old graduate student who happens to be one of the most powerful modern-day magicians. (Source: ANN)

  • Mahou shows don’t really appeal to me at all. I’m passing again.

Umi monogatari

Producer: ZEXCS
Synopsis: Marin and her sister Urin live in the sea. One day they find a ring fallen into the sea. They get out of the sea and meet a girl Kanon, the owner of the ring. Kanon tells them she doesn’t want the ring anymore because it was given by her boyfriend whom she just broke up with, and she throws it into the sea again. Marin thinks Kanon is still in love with him and looks for the ring. But she accidentally breaks a seal on the sea floor…

  • Yep, one more monogatari show. Mermaids? Seriously..? The story sounds a tad silly for me. I like the animation though.

Hetalia Axis Powers 2

Producer: Studio DEEN
Synopsis: According to Mainichi Online, the second season of “Hetalia Axis Powers” was announced to be aired online for PC and mobile phones. The new season is also a 26-episode series and will start in or after this summer.

I should finish the first one before starting this one. There are big chances that I will watch this one too but not regularly.

Kanamemo

Producer: Feel
Synopsis: TV anime adaptation of Iwami Shouko’s four-panel manga of the same name. Nakamachi Kana is a junior high school girl. Her grandmother passed away and she was left all alone. She finds a newspaper carrier station and starts working as a live-in carrier. Her room has a hole on the wall. Other female workers living next door comes in through the hole and start a wild merrymaking.

  • I guess this is the 4-koma of the summer for us,huh.  Oh man, half the population in japan lose their parents at young age. True fax. It’s such a tragedy. Meh, I might watch it. Not.

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class

Producer: AICPLUS+
Synopsis : The Moon Phase Comments diary reports that a NetMile Research survey has leaked the news of an anime adaptation for Satoko Kiyuzuki’s GA Geijutsu-ka Art Design Class manga. The slice-of-life manga revolves around five freshman girls in a high school art class. The manga has been running in Heiwa Shuppan’s Comic Cute! magazine and later in Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Carat since 2004, and two volumes have been compiled and published. According to the web diary, Hiroaki Sakurai (Di Gi Charat, Kodocha, Cromartie High School) will direct off scripts that will be supervised by Doko Machida (Allison & Lillia, Lucky Star, Tears to Tiara). Atsuko Watanabe (Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!!) will reportedly design the characters that AIC will animate. [Source: ANN]

  • Well, I DO enjoy drawing and art for that matter. Hopefully, it’ll be more interesting than my Art appreciation class. Surely, this show couldn’t be as lame as watching a show about exercising, right? I’ll check this out later.

Princess Lover!

Producer: GoHands (?)
Synopsis: Arima Teppei lost his parents in a traffic accident. His grandfather Isshin adopted him by force and ordered him to succeed the head of Arima Group Corporation. At Shuuhou Gakuen, a high school only for wealthly students, Teppei’s new life as a celebrity starts.

  • Here we go again. Those japs don’t know how to drive I tell you. Take away their driver license right now so that anime characters don’t die anymore. No really, I don’t usually watch eroge adaptations so I’m not that interested in this as they’re usually retarded crap. But this one has Emperor Wakamoto in it for what I hear. Grrrrr.

Seitokai no Ichizon

Producer: Studio DEEN
Synopsis: TV anime adaptation of Sugizaki Ken’s light novel series of the same name, the adaptation was announced on the cover note of the fourth volume. The members of the student council of Hekiyou Gakuen are chosen by a popularity vote. As a result, all the members are cute girls except for Sugizaki Ken, who studied hard to enter the council. This novel is about the endless chattering of the members with full of parodies of “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya”, “Dragon Ball” etc.

  • Hmm

Fight Ippatsu! Jyuden-chan!

Producer: Studio Hibari
Synopsis: Meet Plug, an unusual girl from a parallel world. Plug is a “Juuden-chan,” capable of “recharging” people down on their luck, spreading good cheer wherever she goes!

  • NO. I get the feeling that watching this might give me brain cancer.

NEEDLES

Producer: Madhouse Studios
Synopsis: Year 2130,
after the third world war, large contaminated areas known as “Blackspots” formed all over Japan. Large Walls were used to quarantine off these “Blackspots”. In time, signs of inhabitance appeared within these wastelands. Among the survivors who had been abandoned inside the Blackspots, labeled as “those who were unneeded”, came forth possessors of uncanny abilities — Fire, wind, brute strength…they were defined by their supernatural abilities. Others, fearful of their powers, expelled them and named them Needless

  • Sounds a tad too shounen-ish.

 Quick Summer 2009 Anime Summary

spring

This is how I feel about the Spring 09 session

As always I’m willing to give half of these shows a chance before I drop them.

Shows that I will follow and there’s no way in hell way that I will drop are:

Spice and Wolf II – whistle around the world and I whistle around the world
Umineko – Do you need to ask?
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou sensei – Zetsuboushita!
Minaki-ke OAD – Minami-ke is great. Of course I’m watching it

Those are four are 99% guaranteed to be WIN.

Now shows that I sort of have high expectations:

CANAAN : thumbs up
Bakemonogatari : looking good
Tokyo Magnitude : 8 is a cool number. 7 isn’t apparently.

Other anime that I might pick up

Hetalia Axis Powers 2 – Pasta and fake world history. I might end up watching the second season I mean 5m isn’t that much.
GA Gejutsu-ka Art Design Class – Might be interesting enough but if it is too boring I’m dropping it. Speaking of which, I should take another art class next semester.
Umi Monogatari – meh
Seitokai no Ichizon – I enjoy parody show
Prince Lover! – this might the ecchi show of the season for me. I don’t know about you
but ‘m not a huge fan of ecchi but I usually watch one ecchi show each season for consistency.

Not looking too bad this season, right?

  1. Honestly, none of these shows strike me as particularly interesting…

guess I’ll just use the season to catch up on my backlog then.
